Figure 158: Inter-controllerMobility
1. T he localco ntrolleruses its VLAN 10 IP address to join multicast group1 on behalfof a mobile client.
2. T hemo bile client leaves its local controller androams t o VLAN 50 remote c ontrollerA.
Remote controllerA locates t hemobile client's local controller andlearns about the client's multicast groups.
Remote controller A then joins group1 on behalf the mobile client, using its VLAN 50 source IP. Upstream
multicast traffic fromt heroaming client is sent to the local controllerover an L2 GRE t unnel.the remote
controllerwill receive downstream multicast traffic and send it to the mobile client.
NOTE:The L2-GRE Tunnel im plementation of theIP m obility functionality is supportedonly on ArubaOS versions 6.2 or later and is
notbackward com patible with the earlier im plementation. ArubaOS supports only v4 mobility and does not support IPv6 L3 mobility.
Meanwhile, the local controller checkst o see if otherlocal clients require group1 traffic.I fno ot herclients are
interested in group1, thent helocal controller will leave that group. If there are other clients using that group, the
controllerit will continue its group1 membership.
3. N ow the mobile client leaves remote controller A and roams to VLAN 1 00 on remote controller B. Remote
controllerB locates he mobile client's local controllerand learns about the client's multicast groups.Remote
controllerB then jo ins group1 on behalft he roamingmobi lec lient 1, using its VLAN 10 0 IP address.
Both the local controllerand remote co ntrollerA wi llcheck to see if any of their other clients require group1
traffic.I f noneof t heirot herclients are interested in group1, then that controller willleave the group. (If the local
controllerleaves the group, it will also noti fy remote controllerA .) If either controllerhas o therclients using that
group, that controllerit will continue its group1 membership.
