Virtual Intrane t Access

Virtual Intranet Access (VIA) i s part of the Dell remote networks solution targeted for teleworkers and mobile users.
VIA detects the users network environment (trusted andun-trusted) and automatically connects the user to their
enterprisenetwork. Trusted networks typically refersto a protected office network that allows users to directly access
corporate intranet.U n-trustednetworks are public Wi-Fi hotspots like ai rports, cafes, or home network. The VIA
solution comes in two parts—VIA connection manager and the controllerconfiguration.
lVIA connection manager—Teleworkersand mobile users can easily install a light weight applicatio n on their
Microsoft Windows or AppleMacBook computers to connect to their enterprise network fromremote locations
(see "UnderstandingVIA Connection Manager"on page 5 51).
lControllerconfiguration—To set up vi rtualintranet access for remote users, you must configure your controllerto
includesett ing up userroles, authentication, and connectio n profiles. You can use ei ther WebUI or CLI to
configureyour controller (see "Configuring the VIA Controller" on page 553).
NOTE:VIA requires the PEFV li censeand i ssupported on the W-600 Series, W-3000 Series, W-7200 Series, and W-6000M3
controller.

Understanding VIA Connection Manager

If a useri s connected froma remote location that i s outside of the enterprisenetwork, VIA auto maticallydetect s
the environmentas un-trusted and creates a secure IPSec connection between the user and the enterprisenetwork.
Whenthe user moves into the trusted network, VIA detects t henetwo rktype and moves to i dlest ate.

How it Works

VIA provides a seamless connectivity experience to users when accessing an enterprise network resource from an un-
trusted or trusted networkenvironment. You can securely connect to your enterprise network from an un-trusted
network environment.By default VIA will auto-launchat system start and establish a remote co nnection. The
followingt ableexplains the typi cal behavior:
NOTE:The sequence of events described in Table 176 does not necessarilym ean thatthe events always happen in the order shown
in thetable.
