Channe l Switch Ann ouncemen t (CSA)
Whenan AP changes its channel, anexist ing wireless clients may “time out” while waiti ngt o receive a new beacon
fromt heA P; the client must beginscanning to disc overt henew channel on which the AP is operating. If the
disruption is long enough, the client may need to reassociate, reauthenticate, and re-requestan IP address. Channel
Switch Announcement(CSA), as defined by IEEE 802.11 h,enables an AP to announce that it is switching to a new
channelbefore it begins transmitting on that channel. This allows the clients, who support CSA,t o transition to the
new channelwith minimal downtime.
WhenCSA is enabled, the AP does not change to a new channelimmediately. Instead, it sends a number of beacons
(the defaultis 4 ) which contain the CSA announcementbefore it swit chest o the new channel. You can configure
the numberof announcements sent before the change.
NOTE:Cl ients mustsupport CSA in order to track the channel change without experiencing disruption.
