4. To enable IPv6 RA on a V LAN, select the Enable Router Advertisements (RA) check box under Neighbor
Discovery.
5. To configure IPv6 RA prefix for a VLA N, follow the steps below:
a. Under NeighborD iscovery, enteran I Pv6 prefix in the IPv6 RA Prefix field.
b. ClickAddt o configure an IPv6 prefix for the VLAN.
You can add up to three IPv6 prefixes per VLAN i nterface.
6. ClickApply to apply the configurations.
Using CLI
Execute the following commands to configure router advertisements on a VLAN:
(host) (config) #interface vlan <vlanid>
(host) (config-subif)#ipv6 address <prefix>/<prefix-length>
(host) (config-subif)#ipv6 nd ra enable
(host) (config-subif)#ipv6 nd ra prefix X:X:X:X::X/64
Configuring Optional Para meters for RAs
In addition to enabling the RA functionality, you can configuret hefollowing IPv6 neighbor discovery and RA
options on a VLAN:
lNeighbor discovery reachabletime: The ti me,i n milliseconds, that anode assumes a neighbor is reachable after
receiving a reachability confirmation.
lNeighbor discovery retransmit time: The time, in milliseconds, between retransmitted Neighbor Solicitation
messages.
lRA DNS: The IPv6 recursive DNS Serverfor the V LAN.
NOTE:lOn Linux systems, the clients must run the open rdnssddaemon to support the DNS server option.
lWindows 7 does not support DNS server option.
lRA hop-limit: The IPv6 RA hop-limit value. It is the default value to be placed in the Hop Count fieldof the IP
headerfor outgoing (unicast) IPpackets.
lRA interval: The maximum and minimumt ime interval between sending unsolicited multicast router
advertisements fromt he interface,in seco nds.
lRA lifetime: The lifetime associated wit h the defaultrouter in seco nds.A value of 0 indicates that the router is
not a default router andw illnot appearon the default router list. The router lifetime applies only to the router's
usefulnessas a default router; it does not apply to information contained in other message fields or opti ons.
lRA managed configuration flag(Enable DHCP for address): A flag that indicates that thehosts can use the
DHCP server foraddress autoconfiguration besides using RAs.
lRA maximum transmissionunit (MTU): The maximum transmission unit that allthe nodes on a link use.
lRA other configuration flag (Enable DHCP for other information): A flag that indicates that thehosts can use
the administered (stateful) protocol for autoconfiguration of other (non-address)i nformation.
lRA preference:The preference associated with the default router.
You can uset heWebUI o rCLI toconfigure these options.
NOTE:It is always recommended to retain the default value of the RA interval to achieve better performance.
