The Basic User-Ce ntric Networks

This chapterdescribes how to connect a Dell co ntrollerand Dell AP to your wired network. After completing the
tasks described in this chapter, see "Access Points (A Ps)" on page 393 for information on configuring APs.
This chapter describes the following topics:

Understanding Ba sic Deployment and Configu ration Tasks

This section describes typical deployment scenariosand the tasks you must perform while connecting to a Dell
controllerand Dell AP to your wired network. For details on performing the tasks mentioned in these scenarios, refer
to the other procedureswi thin the Basic User-Centric Networks section of this document.

Deploymen t Scenario #1: C ontroller and A Ps on Same Sub net

Figure 4: Controllerand APs on Same Subnet
In this deployment scenario, theA Ps and controllerare on the same subnetwork and will use IP addresses assigned to
the subnetwork. The router is the default gateway for the controllerand clients. There are no routers between the APs
and thec ontroller.APs can be physically connected directly to the controller. The uplinkport on the controller is
connected to a layer-2 switch or router.
For this scenario, you must perform the following tasks:
1. R un the initial setup wizard.
lSet the IP address of VLAN 1.
lSet the defaultgateway to the IP address of the interface of the upstream routerto w hichy ou willco nnect
the controller.
2. Co nnectt heuplink port on the controller to the switch or router interface. By default, all ports on the controller
are access ports and will carry traffic for a single VLAN.
3. D eploy APs. The APs will use the ArubaDiscoveryP rotocol (ADP) to locate the controller.
