Configuring Mobility Do mains
Beforec onfiguringa mobility domain, you should determinethe user VLAN(s) for which mobility is required. For
example, you may want to allow employees to be ableto roam from one subnetwork to another.A llDell controllers
that support the VLANs into which employee users can be placedshould be part of the same mobility domain.
NOTE:Dell mobilitydom ains are supported only on Dell controllers.
A controller can be part of multiple mobility domains, although Dell recommendsthat a controllerbelong to only
one domain. The Dell controllersin a mobility domain do not need to be managed by the same master controller.
You configurea mobi lity domain on a master controller; the mobility domain information is pushed to all local Dell
controllersthat are managed by the same master controller. On each controller, you must specify the

active

domain
(the domain to which the controllerbelongs). If you do not specify the active domai n,the controller will be assigned
to a predefined“ default”domain.
Althoughyo u configurea mobi lity domain on a master controller, the master controllerdoes not need to be a
memberof the mobility domain. For example, you couldset up a mobility domain that contains only local Dell
controllers;you still need to configure the mobility domain on the master controller that manages thelocal Dell
controllers. You can also configure a mobility domain that contains multiple master Dell controllers;you need to
configurethe mobi lity domain on each master controller.
The basic tasks you need to performt o configurea mobility domain are listed below. Thesect ions followingdescribe
each task in furtherdetail. A sample mobility domain configuration is provided in "Example Configuration" on page
495.

On a master controller: On all Dell controllersin the mobility domain:

lConfigurethe m obility domain, incl uding
theentries in the home agent table (HAT)
lEnable mobility (disabled by default)
lJoin a specified mobility domain (not required for “default”
mobility domain)
