Configuring Backup Devices

Preparation of a backup device consists of connecting the device to the system and knowing which of the (working) associated device files (SCSI address) is to be used. To configure a device:

1.Connect the device to a computer. Refer to the documentation that comes with the device.

2.Make sure that you have done the following:

UNIX

Create or find the device filename for a device

Systems

connected to a UNIX system. For detailed steps, refer

 

to the online Help index keyword “creating device

 

filenames” or “finding device filenames”. For further

 

information, refer to Appendix B of the HP OpenView

 

Storage Data Protector Installation and Licensing

 

Guide.

Windows

Provide a SCSI II address and load the driver that

will be used with a device connected to a Windows

 

system.

 

For tape drives, the Windows native tape driver can

 

be:

 

 

unloaded (preferred) or

 

loaded

 

 

The device filename depends on whether a

 

 

Windows native tape driver is used with a

 

 

particular tape drive.
