user In this manual, the term“user” is used to describe someone who has been

assigned an account on the system by the system administrator (i.e., someone

who has been assigned a password, an extension numbe r,a voice m ailbox, etc.).

A particular user is identified by thesys temvia his secret password.

VMWI VisualMail Waiting Indicator,the light on compatible telephones that indicates if

there is unread voice mail. The VMWI standard for voice mail l ights is also

called the FSK technique (see the FSK definition in this glossa ry), and refers to a

signalling techniquefor controlling the voice mail light with low speed modem-

like tones. Telephonesthat are caller ID compatible, that have a voice mail indi-

cator,are almost universally VMWI compatible, since both signalling techniques

are in the sameBellcore standard.
