Serial Menu

Use the SERIAL MENU to change settings affectingjobs

sent to the printer throughthe serial interface port.

SERIAL MENU displays as an option, and appears as

SERIALOPTION 1. SERIAL OPTION 1 is only available if

the Tri-Portinterface option card is installed and Fax Port

is set to disabled.

PCLSmar tSwitch Off

If PCLSmar tSwitch is set to On, the printer examines the data on the serial interface
connection and selects PCLemulation if the data indicates that is the printer language.
Ifboth PCLSmar tSwitch and PS SmartSwitch are set to Off, the printer uses the language
specifiedinthePrinterLanguage menu as the default.If only one Smar tSwitch setting is set
to Off,the printer uses the language that has its Smar tSwitch setting set to On as the default.

If PSSmar tSwitch is set to On, the printer examines the data on the serial interface
connection and selects PostScript3 emulation if the data indicates that is the printer
language.
Ifboth PCLSmar tswitch and PS Smartswitch are set to Off,the pr inter uses the language
specifiedinthePrinterLanguage menu as the default.If only one Smar tSwitch setting is set
to Off,the printer uses the language that has its Smar tSwitch setting set to On as the default.

NPAis a mode of bidirectional communication that follows the conventions defined in
Network
Printing Alliance Protocol, A Printer/Host Control Specification Developedby the NPA
.NPA
moderequires special processing of the pr int data.
IfNPA Mode is set to On, the data received must be in NPA format. If not, it is rejected as bad
data.If NPA Mode is set to Off, the printer does not perform any NPAprocessing. If NPA Mode
is set to Auto, the printer examines the data to determine the format and then processes it in
either format.
The NPAMode setting in the SERIAL MENU applies only to the serial interface connection.
Note: Changing the NPAMode setting automatically resets the printer.
