Terminology

Common Phrases

This guide refers to the IBM Network Color P rint e r as the printer. Additionally,
the Network Print Server feature is ref erre d to as the NPS.

Paper Input and Output Rec eptacles

Input receptacles are called trays, such as tray 1, tray 2, and auxiliary tray.
Output receptacles are called output t ray s .
Safety Notices
There are 3 levels of safety notices:
DANGER calls attention to a situation that is poten tially extremely hazardous
to people.
CAUTION calls attention to a situation that is poten tially hazardous to people.
Attention calls attention to the possibility of dam ag e to a program, device,
system, or data. Attention notices are loc a ted throughout this publication,
but are not listed here.

Safety Precautions

Electrical Safety

This printer is inspected and listed by recogni zed national testing laboratories,
such as Underwriters Laboratories , Inc. (U L ) in the U.S.A. and Canadian
Standards Association (CSA) in Can ada. Listing of a product by a national
testing laboratory indicates that the pro duct is designed and manufactured in
accordance with national requirements intended to minimize safety hazards.
IBM equipment meets a very high standard of safety in design and
manufacture. Remember, however, that this product operates under
conditions of high electrical potentia ls an d heat generation, both of which are
functionally necessary.
Because the paper and toner used in the printer can burn, you should take
normal precautions to prevent fire. These precautions include c ommon-sense
measures, such as keeping potentia lly combustible materials (for examp le,
curtains and chemicals) away from the printer, providing adequate ventilation
and cooling, limiting unattended ope ration, and having trained personnel
available and assigned to the printer.
