Cleaning the Paper Path
This section tells you how to clean the pap er path areas in the printer.

Cleaning the Paper Feeder Area

Paper dust may collect inside the paper f ee der area and affect print quality.
Periodically wipe off the paper feede r are a with a soft, clean cloth moistened
with water. After that, wipe any water residue off with a soft, clean, dry cloth. It
might help to use a small vacuum cleane r to do this. To open the paper
feeder, see “Clearing a Paper Jam in Are a 3 (Paper Feeder Area)” on page
6–9.

Cleaning the Transfer Drum

Clean the surface of the transfer drum only w h en it is very dirty. Wipe the
surface gently with a lint-free cloth. Do not use water or so lvents. Do not touch
the surface with your hand. Be careful not to spill solvents or oil on the
surface.

Cleaning the Separation C orona Wire

When you replace the photocon ductor drum cartridge or if you see toner spots
on your printouts, clean the separation c orona wire using the procedure under
“Cleaning the Separation Corona W ire ” on page 5–39.
