Chapter 4

Operational Concepts and Configuration Examples

This chapter provides information about the X330WAN functional concepts, as well as sample configurations illustrating the implementation of these concepts. This chapter contains the following sections:

Detailed Interface Concepts - Describes the X330WAN physical and virtual interfaces, and their uses.

Enhanced Routing Capabilities - Provides information about Static Route Configuration, Export Default Metric, OSPF Dynamic Cost Support, RIP Distribution Access Lists, and Fragmentation and Reassembly.

This section contains a sample configuration illustrating the implementation of these concepts.

Backup Interfaces - Provides a description of backup interfaces, and describes how to implement them on X330WAN.

Frame Relay Encapsulation - Provides information about the X330WAN’s QoS implementation for PPP encapsulation and Frame Relay encapsulation.

Policy - Provides information about controlling network access to the X330WAN.

RTP Header Compression (cRTP) - Describes the X330WAN’s implementation of cRTP.

QoS and VoIP Treatment - Describes how X330WAN uses Quality of Service, and handles VoIP traffic.

VoIP Implementation with a G700 Media Gateway and an S8300 Media Server - Provides a sample configuration illustrating the implementation of the above concepts.

VoIP Implementation with DEFINITY (CLAN and Prowler) - Provides a sample configuration illustrating the above concepts with DEFINITY.

Detailed Interface Concepts

X330WAN includes physical, Layer 2 virtual, and Layer 3 routing interfaces.

Physical Interfaces

The following are the X330WAN physical interfaces:

WAN Interfaces – 2 ports, configurable for E1 or T1, or 2 USP ports.
