Printer Error Messages

Printer Error messages show that a serious hardware, microcode, or host interface problem has been detected in a printer or in the control unit. An operator can sometimes, but not always, recover from this problem.

Figure 39 shows a sample Printer Error window.

This window contains the following:

vA short description of the detected error condition.

vThe four-character System Reference Code (SRC), which is used for logging of error conditions.

vAn indication of which printer the error occurred on. If the error message is for the control unit, this ®eld is not included on the window.

vA step-by-step recovery procedure, or directions to another source of procedures.

vFunction pushbuttons:

Completed

This pushbutton is included only for error conditions that may be postponed. Select it when you complete all recovery actions.

Postpone

This pushbutton is included only for error conditions that may be postponed. Select it when you want to postpone error recovery. The message is then listed in the Messages selection list box on the Printer Status window, which you can select from the Operate pull-down menu.

Check Reset

This pushbutton is included only for error conditions that you must handle immediately. Select it when you complete all recovery actions.
