Glossary

TDM	(time-division multiplex) Process where the transmission
	channel is divided into time slots.
telephone power	Equipment that provides power to an individual telephone.
supply unit
tie trunk	Private trunk directly connecting two telephone switches.
	See also automatic-start tie trunk, delay-dial-start tie trunk,
	immediate-start tie trunk, and wink-start tie trunk.
timed flash	See switchhook flash.
tip/ring	Contacts and associated conductors of a single-line
	telephone plug or jack.
touch-tone receiver	See TTR.
T/R	See tip/ring.
trunk	A telecommunications path between the communications
	system and the telephone company central office (CO) or
	another switch. Often used synonymously with line.
trunk jack	See line/trunk jack.
trunk pool	See pool.
TTR	(touch-tone receiver) Device used to decode DTMF touch-
	tones dialed from single-line telephones or Remote
	Access telephones.
