Chapter 3 Preparing Your Site for Installation

Site Planning

The Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers can be powered by a DC or AC source. Ensure that the equipment grounding is present and observe power strip ratings. Make sure that the total ampere rating of all products plugged into the power strip does not exceed 80% of the rating.

Table 3-5contains specifications for DC powered systems for all Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers.

For example, the Cisco ASR 1002 Router DC power supply, with 16 Amp input rating must use an AWG #12 gauge wire for a 20Amp circuit breaker and an AWG #10 gauge wire for a 30Amp circuit breaker.

Note All Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router AC power supplies require a 20 AMP circuit breaker.

The AC and DC power supplies for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers support different types of power supply switches. Table 3-6defines which power supplies the Cisco ASR 1000 Series routers support (a Standby or an On/Off switch).
