Because each IP WAN network interface on the CyberSWITCH is configured for a logical IP network, various types of physical interfaces (such as V.35 and ISDN BRI) may belong to the same IP network interface. To avoid sending broadcast packets to all remote devices on an IP network, you explicitly specify with which device (only one) the system should exchange RIP packets.

In the previous graphic, the WAN network interface 1.1.1.1 on SITE1 is used to connect to a dedicated line and an ISDN line. You need to specify to which remote device, either SITE2 or SITE3, SITE1 should exchange RIP packets. If it is necessary to run the RIP between SITE1 and SITE3 as well as between SITE1 and SITE2, then another WAN network interface (for example, 2.1.1.1 on SITE1 and 2.1.1.3 on SITE3) must be configured, as illustrated:
