Replacement of expendable parts
The inverter is composed of a large number of el ectronic parts includ ing semiconductor d evices. The followin g parts
deteriorate with the passage of time because of th eir composition or physical propertie s. The use of aged or
deteriorated parts leads to degr adation in the per formance or a breakd own of the inverte r. To avoid such trouble, the
inverter should be checked per iodically.
Note: Generally, the life of a part de pends on the ambi ent temperature an d the conditions o f use. The life spans
listed below are applicable to parts when used unde r normal environ mental conditions.
1) Cooling fan
The fan, which cools down hea t-generating parts, ha s a service life o f about 30,000 hours (about 7 years) (a verage
ambient temperature: 40°C, operation time: 1 2 hours per day). The fa n also needs to be r eplaced if it makes a
noise or vibrates abnormally.
2) Smoothing capacitor
The smoothing aluminum electr olytic capacitor in the main circuit DC section degrades i n performance becau se of
ripple currents, etc. The smoothi ng aluminum elect rolytic capacitor in t he main circuit DC section degrades i n
performance because of rippl e currents, etc. It bec omes necessary to r eplace the capacit or after it is used f or about
5 years under normal conditio ns (average ambie nt temperature: 40°C, load factor: not more than 80% , oper ation
time: 12 hours per day). For th e inverter that app licable motor output is 15kW (200V)-1 8.5kW (400V) or le ss,
replace the capacitor together with the printed ci rcuit board.
<Criteria for appearance check >
• Absence of liquid leak
• Safety valve in the depressed position
• Measurement of electrostatic capacitance and ins ulation resistance
Note: When it becomes necess ary to replace expe ndable parts, contact your Toshiba distributor. Fo r safety's sake,
never replace any part on your own.
By checking the cumulative op erating time and the part replacement al arm information, y ou can get a rough idea of
when each part should be repla ced. For the repl acement of parts, conta ct the service netw ork or your Toshiba
distributor. (Operation hours can b e known by alarm o utput, if it is set. F or more details, re fer to Section 6.33. 12.)
Standard replacement cycles of principal parts
The table below provides a list ing of the replace ment cycles of parts w hen used under no rmal conditions (ave rage
ambient temperature: 40°C, load factor: not more th an 80%, operati on time: 12 hours pe r day). The replace ment
cycle of each part does not mea n its service life b ut the number of ye ars over which its f ailure rate does no t increase
significantly.

400V/90kW models or smaller )

Note: The life of a part greatly varies depending on the environment of use. Do not install in any location whe re there are large
amounts of dust, metallic frag ments and oil mist.
