HP Classroom Manager 10.61

Accelerate Browse

Increases the browse and connection speed to Clients, this is set by default.

Note: A warning icon will highlight machines you have been unable to connect to. Mouse over the icon to display the reason why the connection failed.

Broadcast Show

When showing the Control screen to clients, the screen information is sent to each client machine in turn. Enabling Broadcast Show results in the screen information being sent to all machines simultaneously. In some network environments where there is limited network bandwidth available or when showing to larger numbers of machines this will provide significant performance benefits.

Whilst reducing overall network traffic generated by HP Classroom Manager, using this feature will generate additional broadcast packets on your network. It is recommended that you consult your Network administrator before using this feature.

Settings

If Broadcast Show is enabled, select this option to set the Broadcast Address. The Broadcast Settings dialog will appear. If multiple Tutors are attempting to use UDP/Broadcast Show simultaneously on the same subnet, it is recommended that each uses a unique Port to avoid conflict.

Wireless Network

Check this option in order to optimize show performance across a wireless network.

Access Point Speed

Select the data rate applicable to your wireless access point.

To achieve the maximum benefit from this feature it is important to ensure that the settings used within the HP Classroom Manager Tutor are in-line with your Wireless Network configuration.

Wireless LAN access points will typically have „factory‟ configured settings which provide a balance between „Range‟ and „Performance‟. In general terms, by reducing the range you can enhance performance.

When HP Classroom Manager is optimized for maximum show performance the networking protocol used is called UDP (User Datagram Protocol), sometimes referred to as Multicast. This minimizes network traffic and maximizes show performance.

It is important to note that on many high end Wireless access points there is a separate setting for UDP data transmission rates. In many cases the default setting may be set very low. For example 1Mbps. Re-configuring your access point to allow UDP (Multicast) network traffic to be transmitted at higher transfer rates can provide significant performance benefits.

When using UDP/Performance mode in HP Classroom Manager it is also important to match your HP Classroom Manager wireless LAN configuration to the transfer rate set for your wireless network. Using the correct HP Classroom Manager configuration will ensure that data is sent at the correct transfer rate to match your network. Sending Data faster than your network transfer rate can result in lost packets / re-tries and have a detrimental effect on performance.

Please consult your supplier / manufacturer for advice and guidance on configuring your device.

Deploy

Opens the HP Classroom Manager Basic Deploy dialog, allowing you to deploy Student software to PCs in a particular room.
