Oil Specification

If oil is to be added, it must m eet the following Carrier sp ec if ications:

• Oil type for HCFC-22 Machines only... Alkyl-benzene-based synthetic compressor oil

specifically forma tted for use in HCFC-22 gea r - dr iv e n machines

ISO Viscosity Grade..................................................................................................86

• Oil Type for units usin g R- 13 4a............Inh ibited polyoleste r - bas e d synthetic compres-

sor oil formatted for use with HFC, gear-driven, hermetic compressors.

ISO Viscosity Grade..................................................................................................68

The alkyl-benzene type oil (part number PP23BZ10 1) or the polyolester - bas e d oil (P/N:

PP23BZ103) may be ordered from your local Carrier representative.

Oil Changes

Carrier recommends chan ging the oil after the fir s t year of operation and every t hree years

thereafter as a minimum in addition to a yearly oil an alysis. However, if a cont inuous oil

monitoring system is functioning and a yearly oil analysis is performed, time between oil changes

can be extende d.

To Change the Oil

1. Transfer the refrig erant into the condenser ( f or isolatable vessel s) or a storage tank.

2. Mark the existing oi l lev e l.

3. Open the cont rol and oil heat er circuit b reaker.
