Optional Pumpout Compressor Oi l Charge

Use oil conforming to Carr ie r specifications f or reciprocating c om pr e ssor usage. Oil

requirements are as fo llo ws:

The total oil charge , 4.5 pints (2.6 L) , consists of 3. 5 pints (2.0 L) for the compressor and one

additional pint (0.6 L) for t he oil separator.

Oil should be visible in on e of the compressor sig ht glasses both during op eration and at

shutdown. Alway s check the oil level bef ore operating the compressor. Before adding or

changing oil, r elieve the re frigerant pres sure as follow s:

1. Attach a pressure gage to the gage port o f either compressor service valve (Figur e 37).

2. Close the suction ser v ic e valve and open the disch arge line to the storag e tank or the

machine.

3. Operate the compressor until the crankcase pressure drops to 2 psig (13 kPa).

4. Stop the compressor and isolate the system by closing the discharge service valve.

5. Slowly remove the oil re tu rn line connection (Figure 37). Add oil as requir ed .

6. Replace the connection and reopen the compressor service valves.
