As a minimum, the following maintenance is required.
1. At least once a year, disconnec t the vent pipi ng at the valve o utlet and care fully inspect t he
valve body and mechani sm for any evidence of int er n al corrosion or rust, dir t , scale,
leakage, etc.
2. If corrosion or forei gn material is found , do not attempt to r epair or reconditio n.

Replace the

valve

.
3. If the machine is install ed in a corrosive atmo s phe re or the relief valves ar e v en ted into a
corrosive atmosphere, make valve inspections at more frequent intervals.
Compressor Bear i n g and Gear Ma in t en ance
The key to good bearing and gear maintenance i s proper lubrication . Use the proper grade of
oil, maintained at rec om m e nded level, temperat ur e , and pressure. Insp ec t the lubrication
system regularly and thoroughly.
To inspect the bearin gs, a complete co mpressor teardown is required. Only a t rained service
technician should rem ov e and examine the beari ngs . The cover plate on older c om p ressor
bases was used for factory-test purposes, and is not usable for bearing or g ear inspection. The
bearings and gears should be examin ed on a schedul ed basis for signs of wear. The fr equency
of examination is deter m in ed by the hours of machin e operation, load con dit ions during
operation, and the condition of the oil and the lubrication system. Excessive bearing wear can
sometimes be detected through increased vib ration or increased be aring temperature. If either
