Before You Call Hewlett-Packard

Check the basics

In general, a problem can be caused by a hardware failure, a software error, or a user error. Often problems may be solved by repeating what was being done when the problem occurred. A few minutes spent in performing these simple checks may eliminate time spent waiting for instrument repair.

qCheck that the cable TV analyzer is plugged into the proper ac power source.

qCheck that the line socket has power.

qCheck that the rear-panel voltage selector switch is set correctly.

qCheck that the line fuse is good.

qCheck that the cable TV analyzer is turned on.

qCheck that the light above m is on, indicating that the power supply is on.

qCheck that the other equipment, cables, and connectors are connected properly and operating correctly.

o Check the equipment settings in the procedure that was being used when the problem occurred.

qCheck that the test being performed and the expected results are within the specifications and capabilities of the cable TV analyzer. Refer to the

HP 8590 E-Series Spectrum Analym-s and HP 8591 C Cable TV Analyzer Calibration Guide.

qCheck the cable TV analyzer display for error messages. Refer to “Error Messages, ” in this chapter.

qCheck operation by performing the verification procedures located in the

HP 8590 E-Series @ectrum Analyzers and HP 8591 C Cable TV Analyzer Calibration Guide. Record all results in the performance test record.

qCheck the brightness with the intensity knob, or adjust the focus as described in Chapter 2 if the display focus is poor.
