This type of modem data station includes only DTE and a modem (see

Figure 5–2). The modem connects to the control unit through an analog port on a T/R module. If the modem does not provide dialing capability, a single-line telephone can be connected to it to provide dial-out capability; however, the data station and the telephone cannot be used simultaneously.
