Key Concepts 405

The History group allows you to monitor activity on your network at any chosen time in the past.

Host

The Host group defines a standard by which a network device can make available information on the activity of each separate "host" seen by the network device on each of its interfaces and VLANs. A host is simply another network device with a unique network address.

Information gathered against each host includes:

transmitted and received packets

transmitted and received bytes

errors

received multicast packets

The information in the Host group allows you to monitor the current activity of each individual device on your network. It augments the Statistics view, allowing you to drill down to identify which particular host is responsible for a more generalized problem.

HostTopN

The HostTopN group presents the same data as the Host group, but allows you to retrieve only the most active hosts in the group, sorted by a specific data value of your choosing.

The most active hosts may be sorted by:

Packet Received Rate

Packet Sent Rate

Bytes Received Rate

Bytes Sent Rate

Error Packet Rate

Broadcast Packet Rate

Multicast Packet Rate

The HostTopN group complements the Host group, and allows you to view which hosts on your network are responsible for the highest levels of particular kinds of traffic.
