If Use automatic monitoring is selected, the default, then you may specify the number of important devices to use full monitoring mode for.All other devices will be monitored using the response monitoring mode.In automatic monitoring mode 3Com Network Director automatically controls the Monitoring global defaults settings.

If Use automatic monitoring is not selected then the monitoring mode and poll rate to apply to the whole map can be specified in the Monitoring global defaults portion of the dialog box.

If you are in automatic mode or you have not changed the poll rates from the default and a Network Discovery adds more devices to your map then 3Com Network Director may automatically reduce the whole map poll rates to reduce the amount of traffic generated by monitoring.
