Discovery you can do so by canceling the Network Discovery from within the Network Discovery Progress dialog box.

Configuring Monitor 3Com Network Director can monitor various services on devices, Thresholds including FTP, HTTP, SMTP, POP3, DNS and NFS on any end station and IP

Ping on all IP devices, by sending appropriate queries to the devices. Due to the latency introduced by WAN links in the path to remote sites, remote devices will naturally have a longer response time to these queries when compared to local devices. If the latency introduced by the WAN links in the path to a particular remote site is very high then this may lead to 3Com Network Director incorrectly generating events indicating that the devices at that site as being slow to respond to services and will also result in the live and historical graphs of monitoring data showing that devices at that site have high response times.

If it is normal for a particular remote device to have slow response times to service monitor queries then it is recommended that you increase the thresholds configured for the service monitors on that device in order to prevent this incorrect reporting taking place. Details of how to configure the thresholds for monitors are given in “Setting Thresholds for Monitor-Based Events”on page 356.

In order to configure the threshold appropriately for the service monitors on such a remote device it is necessary to determine the normal range of response times that are seen for that device. The simplest method of doing this is to view historical reports of the response times for that device.

To generate a historical report for a device, select the device in the map or tree and then select Monitoring > Historical Report. See “Performance Reporting” on page 385 for more information on historical reports.

Provided you have been monitoring the services on the device continuously for an extended period of time, it will be obvious from the graphs what the normal response time ranges are for the different services.

You can use this information to configure the high threshold for each service monitor on the device such that the warning threshold is just above the maximum of the normal response time range.
