Figure 371 Add Subnet Dialog Box

In order to change the number of retries and timeout periods for a particular subnet you will need to uncheck the Use defaults from Tools > Options dialog box option, after which you can set the number of retries and timeout periods for the subnet.

Changes made to a subnet in the Retry/Timeout information frame are retained by the subnet after Network Discovery has completed. As a result, subsequent requests used to monitor and manage the devices in a discovered subnet will use the numbers of retries and timeout periods that were specified for that subnet in the Network Discovery wizard.

Similarly, the numbers of retries and timeout periods configured for a subnet in the map will be used for rediscoveries of that subnet, provided the Network Discovery wizard was launched with the subnet selected.

Determining Appropriate Retry and Timeout Periods

Increasing the number of retries or the timeout period increases the length of time that it will take before 3Com Network Director concludes that a device is not responding. This can slow down the time it takes 3Com Network Director to complete network operations.
