How Do I Restrict Monitoring to SNMP Traps for a Device?

You want to keep the network management traffic against a particular device on your network to an absolute minimum, but still want to allow the device to inform you of unusual events.

1Click on the icon for the device in the 3Com Network Director map to select it.

2Select the Device > Properties menu option to launch the Properties dialog box.

3Select the Monitoring tab.

4If the Use defaults from… option is checked, uncheck it.

5Select the SNMP traps only monitoring mode option.

6Click OK to validate your changes

There Is No Port Information For My Device

The Properties dialog box for the device you selected does not show a tree on the left-hand side, so it is not possible to view the properties of individual ports on that device.

The most likely reason for this is that 3Com Network Director does not support the device. For devices that are not supported by 3Com Network Director, neither unit or port information can be extracted, so no properties can be viewed for either a unit or a port on that device. Ensure that 3Com Network Director supports the device.
