topology for. Deleting the link removed the representations of all of those WAN interfaces from the map.

By setting the appropriate end of a newly added link to one of the WAN interfaces of the router you restored the map representation for that interface only. You can automatically restore the representation of the other WAN interfaces by rediscovering one of the subnets that the router has an IP address on.

If you intending making any further changes to the WAN topology after deleting such a link, and these changes involve either one or more of the interfaces whose representation has been removed from the map, or other routers on the same subnet as the router that the link was connected to, then it is recommended that you postpone the rediscovery until after you have completed all of those changes. Doing so will mean that you only need to perform one rediscovery of that subnet and so will reduce the amount of traffic generated by the discovery operation.

Manual Layout of WAN Topology and Rediscovery

3Com Network Director assumes that manual modifications made to the WAN topology accurately reflect the real WAN topology of your network. As a result, subsequent network discoveries will not alter the topology you have put in place for the existing WAN interfaces in the map.

However, any new WAN interfaces discovered during subsequent network discoveries will be linked into the single Default WAN cloud as usual. If you have deleted this cloud from the map then it will be recreated automatically in order to accommodate this.

Monitoring WAN 3Com Network Director ensures that all WAN links are displayed in the links map terminating at a cloud. For example, if you manually alter the

topology to show the correct connection of a point-to-point link then that link will automatically be divided into two halves, with both halves of the link terminating at the same cloud. See “Connecting Point-to-Point WAN Interfaces Together” on page 688 for details of how to manually alter the topology for a point-to-point link.

Displaying the WAN links in this manner allows you to choose the appropriate end or ends for monitoring the WAN link:

If you want to monitor a point-to-point WAN link and only need to monitor the WAN link using one of the two routers then you can
