Option Description Application
-e Displaysinfor mation on various
processes.
Allowsyou t o view the process IDs
andfiles that canbe executed.
-f Generates a complete list. Allowsyou to v iew process
information such as the user ID, the
parentprocess ID, th e execution
time,and the path st o the executed
files.
-ooption Selects any items fr om those that
canbe configured as outputs.
Optionsof pid ,pcp u, pmem, and
commdispla y the process ID, CPU
usage,mem ory usage, and the
corresponding executable files,
respectively.
Allowsyou t o check only the most
importantin formation. By knowing
theresource usag e rate, you can
identifyprocesses t hat potentially
affectthe system performance and
causehang ups .

C.6 ps(1) Command

Theps(1 )c ommand displays a list of process statuses. When no options are specified,

thecommand displays information of processes that have the same execution user ID

asthe exec uting user and the same control terminal.

Ifyou specify an option, output information is controlled by the option.

TableC-6 lists the options of the ps(1 M) command and how those options are useful

fortroubleshooting.

Thefollowing example shows the ps(1M) command output.
