12 Add any comments you want to the printcap file. For example, you could type something like the following.

Dick’s printer is down the hall.

13 Select exit to save your settings and then press Enter to complete the procedure.

SCO UNIX

Use the following procedure to set up a remote printer on the host that sends jobs to a Network Card using lpd.

1At the prompt, type: mkdev rlp

Note

You cannot run mkdev rlp twice. To add another printer, use the rlp- conf command.

2Type the responses shown below for the questions that appear.

Do you want to install or remove a remote printer? Type: I

3Do you want to change printer description file /etc/printcap? Type: Y

4Write a printer name.

Type the name of the printer. Example: lprprinter1

5Is lprprinter1 a remote printer or a local printer? Type: R

6Enter remote host name.

Type the Network Card host name recorded in the printcap file. Example: lprprinter

7Confirm the information you have entered. Type: Y

8Confirm the preceding connection as your system default. Type: Y
