SNMPv2 Specifies that SNMP version 2 will be used. The SNMP v2 su pports both
centralized and distributed network management strategies. It includes improvem ents in
the Structure of Management Information (SMI) and adds some securit y features.
SNMPv3Specifies that SNMP version 3 will be used. SNMP v3 provides secure access
to devices through a combination of authentication and encrypting pack ets over the
network. SNMP v3 adds:
Message integrity ensures that packets have not been tampered with during
transit.
Authentication determines if an SNMP message is from a valid source.
Encryption scrambles the contents of messages to prevent it being view ed by
an unauthorized source.
Security Level When SNMPv3 is in use, it is necessary to choose the s ecurity level. Use the drop down
menu to select from the following:
noauth_nopriv

Specifies that there will be no authorization and no encryption of pack ets
sent between the Switch and a remote SNMP manager.
auth_nopriv Specifies that authorization will be required, but there will b e no encryption
of packets sent between the Switch and a remote SNMP manager.
auth_priv Specifies that authorization will be required, and that packets s ent bet ween t he
Switch and a remote SNMP manger will be encrypted.
Community
String/SNMPv3 User
Name
Enter an alphanumeric string that will be used to authorize a remote SNM P manager to
access the Switch’s SNMP agent. Alternatively enter the SNMPv3 user nam e.
Click Apply to implement changes made.
SNMP Engine ID
The Engine ID is a unique identifier used for SNMP V3 implement ations. This is an alphanumeric string used to
identify the SNMP engine on the Switch.
To view this window, click Configuration > SNMP Settings > SNMP Engine ID as shown below:

To change the Engine ID, enter the new Engine ID in the space provided and click the Apply button.
