SNMPv2 – Specifies that SNMP version 2 will be used. The SNMP v2 su pports both
centralized and distributed network management strategies. It includes improvem ents in
the Structure of Management Information (SMI) and adds some securit y features.
SNMPv3 – Specifies that SNMP version 3 will be used. SNMP v3 provides secure access
to devices through a combination of authentication and encrypting pack ets over the
network. SNMP v3 adds:
• Message integrity − ensures that packets have not been tampered with during
transit.
• Authentication − determines if an SNMP message is from a valid source.
• Encryption − scrambles the contents of messages to prevent it being view ed by
an unauthorized source.
Security Level When SNMPv3 is in use, it is necessary to choose the s ecurity level. Use the drop down
menu to select from the following:
noauth_nopriv
−
Specifies that there will be no authorization and no encryption of pack ets
sent between the Switch and a remote SNMP manager.
auth_nopriv − Specifies that authorization will be required, but there will b e no encryption
of packets sent between the Switch and a remote SNMP manager.
auth_priv − Specifies that authorization will be required, and that packets s ent bet ween t he
Switch and a remote SNMP manger will be encrypted.
Community
String/SNMPv3 User
Name
Enter an alphanumeric string that will be used to authorize a remote SNM P manager to
access the Switch’s SNMP agent. Alternatively enter the SNMPv3 user nam e.
Click Apply to implement changes made.
The Engine ID is a unique identifier used for SNMP V3 implement ations. This is an alphanumeric string used to
identify the SNMP engine on the Switch.
To view this window, click Configuration > SNMP Settings > SNMP Engine ID as shown below:

To change the Engine ID, enter the new Engine ID in the space provided and click the Apply button.
