slushing compound on the shaft or othe r parts must be remov ed using a petrol eum type solvent
and observing proper saf ety precautions .
Note: If the motor utilized a shi pping bolt for restrai ning the rotor, the West in ghouse logo must
be installed over the ho le in the endcover. The logo , the gasket, and hardwar e can be
found with the parts that have been shipped loos e. (Usually these are pack ed inside of
the main power lead box.)
Open-Drive Motor Electrical Connection
All interconnecti ng wiring for c ontrols and groun ding should be i n strict accorda nce with both
the National El ectrical Code and any local requirements.
The main lead b ox furnished with the moto r has been s ized to provide adequate spa ce for
the make-up of the c onnections between t he motor lead cables and the incoming power cables.
The bolted joi nts between th e motor lead and the power cables must be made and ins ulated in
a workman-like manner following the best trade practices.
Fabricated motors are provided wit h 2 stainless ste el grounding pad s drilled and tap ped with
the NEMA 2-hole pattern (two 1/2 -13 tapped holes on 1 3/4 in. centers). Fan cooled cast
frames are pro vided with a special groundin g bolt. The motor should be grounded by a proper
connection to the electrical system ground.
The rotation directi on of the motor will be as shown by either a nam eplate on the motor or the
certified drawin g. The required phas e rotation of t he incoming power f or this motor rotat ion may
