3. All parts should be carefully inspected for nicks, scratches, etc., in any contact surfaces.
Such imperfections s hou ld be removed by an appropri ate method such as stonin g,
scraping, filing, etc., followed by thorough cleaning.
4. Apply a few drops of oil to the journal and bearing saddl es.
5. Roll the bottom half of t he be aring into place and low er th e shaft.
6. Before installing the floating labyrinth sea l halves, observe their condition. Do not attem pt to
use a cracked or chipped seal . The bottom ha lf seal has a set of drilled holes in its si de
face. These must be pl ac ed at the bottom toward the insi de of the bearing so that
accumulating oil may dr ai n back into the housing.
7. Put a small head of Curil-T around the bottom seal hal f outside diameters on bot h sides
adjacent to the garte r sp r ing groove. This will prevent oil by-passing the seal ar ou nd its
outside.
8. Place the bottom seal half on top of the shaft (ensuri ng t hat the proper orientat ion of the
drain holes is provide d and roll it into position . I ns t all the top half of the seal maki ng sure
that the anti-rotati on button is located in the pr op er position on the inboar d s id e of the
bearing. Insert the gart er spring pulling up on both end s to perm i t engaging the lock. Run a
small bead of Curil- T aro und the outside diamete r s on bot h sides adjacent to the gart er
spring groove on this half also.
