Measurement
— Occasionally, coup lin g faces may not be perfectl y true, or may have been
damaged in handling. To compensate for any such run out, determine the actual or ‘‘net’’ shaft
misalignment as follo ws:
Check the opening at the t op an d at the bottom of the coupli ng faces (or at each side when
making plan adjustment ). Rotate
both
shafts exactly 180 deg rees and recheck the open ing s.
Record the difference. (Example below is in inches.)
If the larger opening rem ai ns the same but changes from s ide to side, the shafts are in
perfect alignment . T he c ha nge in opening is due entirel y to coupling runout, as abov e ,
