Inspect starter cont ac t surfaces for wear or pitting on mechanical-type st arters. Do not
sandpaper or file silv er - pl ated contacts. Follo w the starter manufactur e r’s instructions fo r
contact replaceme nt , lubrication, spare par t s ordering, and other main tenance requirement s.
Periodically vacuum or blow off accum ulated debris on the internal parts w ith a high-velocit y,
low-pressure blower.
Power connections on newl y installed starters ma y re lax an d loosen after a month of
operation. Turn power of f and retighten. Rech ec k ann ually thereafter.
Never open isolating knife switches while equipment is operating. Electrical arc-
ing can cause serious injury.
