should be energized at t he v ol tage shown by the space hea ter nameplate attache d to the
motor. Incandescent lig ht bulbs can be placed wit hin the motor to provide heat . However, if
used, they must not be al low ed to come in contact with any pa rts of the motor because of th e
concentrated hot spo t t hat could result.
This motor has been prov ide d with a shaft shipping br ac e o r shipping bolt (normal ly pai nted
yellow) to prevent shaf t movement during transi t, it must be removed to allow shaft rotation
(refer to Before Initial Start-Up, Remove Shipping Packaging section). It is very important that
this brace be reinstalle d exactly as it was origin ally, before the motor is m ov ed from storage or
any time when the motor is be ing transported. This pr e vents axial rotor moveme nt that might
damage the bearings.
Motors equipped with sl eev e bearings are shipped f ro m the factory with the bearing oi l
reservoirs drained . I n s to rage, the oil reservoir s s hou ld be properly filled to the center of the oil
level gage with a good gra de of rust inhibiting oil (re fer to the certified draw ing for oil viscosity
and any special require ments). To keep the bear ing journals well oiled and t o pr ev e nt rusting,
the motor shaft should be r ot ated several revolu ti ons every 2 weeks. While the shaft is rotating
it should be pushe d to both extremes of the endplay to al low for oil flow over the entire length of
the journals.
