Seal Disassembly (Figure 36)

Contact seal disassem bly an d repair should be perfor m ed only by well qualified comp ressor

maintenance perso nnel. These dis assembly instruc tions are include d only as a co nvenient

reference for the authorized serviceman.

For ease of disassembly, refer to Figure 36 while followin g these instru ctions.

1. Remove refrigeran t.

2. Remove shaft couplin g and spacer (if any).

3. Remove screws holding windage baffle (Item 4) and remove baffle.

4. Remove shaft-end lab yrinth (Item 7), gasket (It em 5) and necessary piping.

5. Remove snap ring (Item 11) f rom shaft-end baffle and assemble to contact sleev e (Item

16).

6. Remove seal housing cover (Item 2). The contact sleeve, spring (Item 15) and packing

gland (Item 14) will com e out with the cover.

7. Place assembly on benc h wi th contact sleeve assem bl y face down on a soft cloth or cl ean

cardboard.

Protect seal faces at all times

.

8. Press down on seal housing cover to compress the contact sleeve spring.

9. Maintain pressure and remove snap ring.

10. Slowly release press ur e on cover. Spring tensio n wil l force contact sleeve out of ho using.

For further inspect ion , remove packing gland and O-ring (Item 12).
