2. Follow the alignment sequence specified in t he Near Final Al ignment section.
3. All alignment work is per f ormed on gear and drive equ ipment. Once the comp ressor is
bolted in a perfectly lev e l position and is piped t o cooler and condenser, it must not be
moved prior to hot check.
4. All alignment checks must be made with equipment holddown bolts tightened.
5. In setting dial indica tors on zero and when tak ing readings, both shaft s s hou ld be tight
against their respect ive thrust bearings .
6. Space between coupli ng hub faces must be held to coupling manufacture r’s
recommendations .
7. Accept only repeatable readings.
Gear and Drive Coupling Alignment
1. Move gear with coupling attac hed into alig nment with co mpressor coupling . Adjust
jackscrews to reach close alignment. Follow procedures outlined in Correcting Angular
Misalignment and Corr e cting Parallel Misali gnment sections.
2. Generally, a 5-in. long spacer hub is supplied bet ween gear and compress o r. Maintain
exact hub-to-hub dist ance specified on job dr a wings.
3. Where shaft ends are very c lo se, a taper gage may be use d in place of the dial indic at or.
4. Get drive alignment as close as possible by jackscrew adjustment.
