Open-Drive Motor Handling/Rigging
Each motor is provided wit h lifting lugs, welded to the four corners of the motor frame, for
lifting the assembled m ac h ine. The motor should always be lifted by usi ng the lifting lugs
located on all four corne rs of the motor frame. ( S ee F igure 46.)
If the motor is lifted wi th the top air housing removed, the angle of the liftin g slings with the
horizontal should nev e r be less than 45 degrees.
With the exclusi on of the TEWAC cooler, t he top air housing is pr ovided with 3 /4 -10 tapped
holes for lifting devic es to be installed in order to remove the air hou sing from the motor. Th e top
air housing can be detache d by removing the enc los u re holddown bolts , lo cated in the inside
corners of the enclosu r e. These enclosure hold down bolts are access ed through the louver /
screens located on the front and rear end of the machine or thro ugh access panels bolted to the
sides of the enclosure.

Spreader bars of adequate capacity and number mus t be us ed to avoid applying
any pressure against the top air housing with the lifting plugs.
