If the motor is of TEWAC (Tot al ly Enclosed Water-t o- A ir Co oled) design, the maximu m inlet
water temperature and the water flow rate (GPM) at the air cooler must be as shown by the
certified drawing. Ot he rwise, the discharg e air t emperature from the cool er (actually the
ambient air for the mot or as s how n by the main nameplate) cou ld be too high for the motor t o
properly cool.
Check Rotation (Hermeti c Motor)
1. Engage the main mot or disconnect on th e front of the starter p anel. The motor is now ready
for rotation check.
2. After the default screen Status message states ‘‘Ready for Start’’ press the LOCAL softkey;
start-up checks will be made by the control.
3. When the starter is ener gi zed and the motor begins t o turn over, check for clock w ise
rotation (Fig u r e 30).
If Rotation Is Proper, allow the compressor to come up to speed.
If the Motor Rotation Is Not Clockwise (as viewed through the sight glass), reverse any
2 of the 3 incoming power le ads t o the starter and recheck r ot ation.
Note: Starters may also have pha se protection and will not allow a start if the phase is not cor-
rect. Instead, a Start er Fault message will occur if this happens.
