Oil Changing
The oil reservoirs of the s elf lubricated bearings s ho uld be drained and refil led every 6
months. More frequent changes may be needed if sev er e oil discoloration or co nt amination
occurs. In condition s where contaminati on does occur, it may b e advisable to flush the reservoir
with kerosene to remove any sediment before new oil is added. Proper care must be taken to
thoroughly drain the re s er v oi r of the flushing mater ial before refilling with t he new oil.
Refill the reservoir to t he c en ter of the oil sight glass wit h a rust and oxidation in hib ited,
turbine grade oil. The vis c o sity of the oil must be 32 IS O (15 0 SSU) at 100 F (37.7 C). Oil
capacity in each of the 2 be ar in gs is 0.6 gal. (2 l) per beari ng. Use of Carrier Oil Spec i fication
PP16-0 is appro ved (Mobil DTE Light or Sun Oil SUNVIS 916 ).
Disassembly
The bearing sleeve is of t he s ph erically seated, se lf-a ligning type. The oppo site drive end
bearing is normally insulated for larger motors (or when specified). On some motors, the
insulation is bonded to t he s ph erical seat of the beari ng housing. Use extreme c ar e when
removing the sleeve f r om th e ins u lated support to avoi d dam a ging this insulatio n.
Note that some bolts and t app ed holes associated wit h the bearing housings, bea ring
sleeves, and seals are met ric.
