Compressor Bear i n g and Gear Ma in t en ance
The key to good bearing and gear maintenance i s proper lubrication . Use the proper grad e of
oil, maintained at rec om m e nded level, temperat ure, and pressure. Insp ect the lubrication
system regularly and thoroughly.
Only a trained service tech nician should remov e and examine the bearing s . T he be arings
and gears should be exami ned on a scheduled basi s for s ig ns of wear. The freque nc y of
examination is det ermined by the hour s of machine operat ion, load condi tions during operat ion,
and the condition of the oil and the lubrication system. Excessive bearing wear can sometimes
be detected through increased vibration or increased bearing temperature. If either symptom
appears, contact an exp erienced and respons i ble service organi z at ion for assistance.
Inspect the Heat Exchanger Tubes

Cooler

Inspect and clean the co ole r tubes at the end of the fi r s t op erating season. Bec aus e these
tubes have internal ridges, a rotary-type tube cleaning system is necessary to fully clean the
tubes. Upon inspec tion, the tube condition will determine the scheduled frequen cy for cleaning ,
and will indicate wheth er water treatment is ad equate in the chille d wat er/brine circuit . I ns pe ct
the entering and leaving chilled water temper at ure sensors for sign s of slime, corrosion, or
scale. Replace the sensor i f corroded or r emove any sca le if found.
