Check Sens or Accuracy
Place the sensor in a mediu m of a known temperature and compare that temperat ur e t o the
measured reading. The thermometer used to det ermine the temperatu r e of the medium should
be of laboratory quali ty wi th 0.5° F (.25° C) gradua tions. The sensor in que s ti on should be
accurate to within 2° F (1. 2° C).
See Figure 7 and Figure 8 for sensor locations. The sensors are immersed di rectly in the
refrigerant or water c ir c u its. The wiring at each s ens o r is easily disconnect ed by unlatching the
connector. These conn ectors allow only one - way c on nection to the sensor. Wh en installing a
new sensor, apply a pipe s eal ant or thread sealant to the sensor threads.
Dual Temperature Sensors
There are 2 sensing elem ent s on each of the bearing tem pe rature sensors (herm et ic and
open-drive machines) and motor temperature sensors (hermetic machines only) for servicing
convenience. In case one of the dual sensors is dama ged, the other one can be us ed by
moving a wire.
The number 1 terminal in t he s en sor terminal box is the c om m on line. To use the second
sensor, move the wire fr om th e number 2 position to th e num b er 3 position.
