All starters, whethe r sup plied by Carrier or the cus t omer, must meet Carri er S ta rter
Specification Z-37 5. This specification can be obtained from the Carr ier S al es Representative.
The purpose of this speci fication is to ensure the c om p atibility of the start er an d the machine.
Many styles of compatible star t ers are available, includ ing solid-state starters, aut otransformer,
wye-delta closed trans i tion starters, and f ull voltage starters.

Definitions

Analog Signal

An analog signal
varies in proportion to t he m on itored source. It qua nt ifies values between
operating limits. (Example: A temperature sensor is an analog device because its resistance
changes in proportion t o the temperature, gene rating many values.)

Digital Signal

A digital (discrete) signal
is a 2-positi on representati on of the valu e of a monitore d source.
(Example: A switch is a digital device because it only indicates whether a value is above or
below a set point or boundar y by ge nerating an on/off, hig h/low, or open/clos ed s ig nal.)
