also be stated. If either is un known, the correct seque nce can be determined in th e fo llowing
manner: While the motor is un coupled from the load, s ta rt the motor and observe th e dir e ction
of rotation. Allo w the motor to achie ve full speed before disconnecting it from the power sour ce.
Refer to Open-Drive Motor Pre-Start Checks for informat ion concerning i nitial start-up. If
resulting rotation is incorrect, it can be reversed by interchanging any 2 incoming cables.
Open-Drive Motor Auxiliary Devices
Auxiliary devices such as resistance temperature detectors, thermocouples, thermoguards,
etc., will generally terminate on terminal blocks located in the auxiliary terminal box on the
motor. Other devices m ay t erminate on their own enc los u res elsewhere on the motor . Such
information can be obtained by ref erring to the cer tified drawing. I nformation regarding terminal
designation and the conn ection of auxiliary dev i ces can be obtained from aux i liary drawings
referenced by the outl ine drawing.
If the motor is provided wit h internal space heate rs, th e incoming voltage suppl ied to them
must be exactly as shown by ei ther a nameplate on the mot or or the outline drawin g fo r proper
heater operation. Cau tion must be exercised anyt ime contact is made with t he in coming space
heater circuit as space heater voltage is often au tomatically applied whe n the motor is shut
down.
