Correcting Angular M i salignment

Preparation

— Shaft angular misalignm en t is measured on the fac e of the coupling hubs or
on brackets attached to each shaft (see Figure 38 a nd Figure 39). Brac k et s are preferred since
they extend the diamete r of the face readings.
Attach a dial indicator to one co upl ing hub or shaft and place the indi cator button against the
face of the opposite hub . Pos i tion the indicator so tha t the plunger is at appro x im at ely mid-
position when the dial is s et to zero. Both shafts sho uld be held tightly again s t t hei r thrust
bearings when t he dial is se t and when r eadings are ta ken.
To be sure that th e indicator linkag e is tight and the button is on secu rely, rotate the c oupling
exactly 360 degrees. Th e dial reading should r et urn to zero. Accept onl y re pea table readings.
