effects of overpressur e . To ensure against dama ge t o the equipment and possibl e injury to
personnel, these devi ces must be kept in peak oper at ing condition.
As a minimum, the following main tenance is requ ired.
1. At least once a year, disconnect the vent piping at the valve outlet and carefully inspect the
valve body and mechani sm for any evidence of intern al corrosion or rust, dirt , scale,

Replace the

valve

.
3. If the machine is install ed in a corrosive atmosphe re or the relief valves are ven ted into a
corrosive atmosphere, make valve inspections at more frequent intervals.
Coupling Maintenance (Open-Drive Machines)
Proper maintenance of t he c ou pling is important since t he coupling supports th e ou tboard
end of the compressor low speed shaft. Only the compressor end of the co upling has gear teeth
and these are manufact ur ed with special tolerance s for this application.

Procedure

Clean and inspect the gear teeth i n the compressor end coupling for we ar yearly. If the teeth
are worn, replace the ta per e d coupling hub, sleeve an d O-ring. Repack the gear tee th and
