Chapter 21 Configuring Pseudowire

Configuring Hot Standby Pseudowire Support for ATM/IMA

DETAILED STEPS

Command

Purpose

Step 1

enable

Enables privileged EXEC mode.

Enter your password if prompted.

Example:

Router> enable

Step 2

configure terminal

Enters global configuration mode.

Example:

Router# configure terminal

Step 3

interface interface-name

Selects the interface.

interface-name—Name of the interface

Example:

Router(config)# interface ATM0/IMA1

Step 4

pvc vpi/vci l2transport

Create or assigns a name to an ATM permanent virtual circuit (PVC), to

specify the encapsulation type on an ATM PVC.

Example:

vpi—ATM network virtual path identifier (VPI) for this PVC.

Router(config-if)# pvc 90/90

vci—ATM network virtual channel identifier (VCI) for this PVC.

l2transport

Step 5

encapsulation { aal0 aal5 }

Configures the ATM adaptation layer ( AAL) and encapsulation type for

an ATM virtual circuit (VC), VC class , VC, bundle, or permanent virtual

Example:

circuit (PVC) range.

Router(config-if)# encapsulation

aa10

Step 6

xconnect peer-ip-address vc-id

Binds an attachment circuit to a pseudowire.

encapsulation mpls

peer-ip-address—IP address of the remote provider edge (PE) peer.

Example:

The remote router ID can be any IP address, as long as it is reachable.

vcid—32-bit identifier of the VC between the routers at each end of

Router(config-if-srv)# xconnect

the layer control channel.

192.168.1.12 100 encapsulation mpls

encapsulationSpecifies the tunneling method to encapsulate the

data in the pseudowire.

Step 7

backup peer peer-router-ip-addr

Specifies a redundant peer for a pseudowire virtual circuit (VC).

vcid

peer-router-id—IP address of the remote peer router.

Example:

vcid—32-bit identifier of the VC between the routers at each end of

the layer control channel.

Router(config-if-xconn)# backup

peer 170.0.0.201 200
