DETAILED STEPS

Command or Action

Purpose

Step 1

enable

Enables privileged EXEC mode.

Enter your password if prompted.

Example:

Router> enable

Step 2

configure terminal

Enters global configuration mode.

Example:

Router# configure terminal

Step 3

interface type number

Specifies an interface type and number and enters interface

configuration mode.

Example:

Router(config)# interface vlan 40

Step 4

ipv6 address ipv6-address/prefix-length {eui-64

Configures an IPv6 address based on an IPv6 general prefix

link-local anycast}

and enables IPv6 processing on an interface.

Example:

eui-64—Specifies the global IPv6 addresses with an

interface identifier (ID) in the low-order 64 bits of the

Router(config-if)# ipv6 address

IPv6 address. Only the 64-bit network prefix for the

2001:DB8:FFFF::2/64

address needs to be specified; the last 64 bits are

automatically computed from the interface ID.

link-local—Specifies the link-local address on the

interface that is used instead of the link-local address

that is automatically configured when IPv6 is enabled

on the interface.

anycast—Specifies an IPv6 anycast address.

Step 5

ipv6 enable

Enables IPv6 on the interface.

Example:

Router(config-if)# ipv6 enable
